Ethiopian authorities released Sunday Lebanese businessman Hassan Jaber who had been detained in the African country since last week, without revealing the reasons for his detention.

His brother and head of the Lebanese community in Gabon Imad Jaber said the Gabonese government played a role in releasing and bringing back Hassan to Gabon because he carries a Gabonese passport.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry stated that the Lebanese citizen was released after the efforts exerted by the ministry.

It announced that the Ethiopian Minister Plenipotentiary Chargé d'Affaires in Lebanon, Aklilu Tatere Wube was summoned on Friday, to inquire about the detention of the citizen at Addis Ababa Airport on September 7.

The statement said that the ministry requested information and clear answers from the Ethiopian security authorities on this subject by next Monday at the latest.

Hassan was reported to have been detained by Ethiopian authorities while in transit, traveling from Libreville to Beirut. Family member said he was "taken away” as he was getting his boarding pass checked before boarding the plane to Beirut. He is due to arrive in Lebanon soon.
